With the help of the Wi-Fi on and off button on your Netgear router, you can also turn the Wi-Fi radios on and off. You can log into the router's web interface, turn the wireless router radio on or off, and save the changes. Some of the details required to log into the Netgear router's web interface are default login details and IP address.
Enabling the wifi radio on your Netgear router will help devices establish a wireless connection with the router. It also offers compatibility with multiple devices. Turning off the wifi radio reduces interference, enhances security and privacy, and saves energy.
The WiFi On/Off button on the router can turn the wireless radios on and off, or you can log in to the router and enable or disable the wireless radios. It may be easier to press the WiFi On/Off button if you are close to the router. It may be easier to enable or disable them through the user interface software if you are away from the router or have already logged in.
Press and hold the WiFi On/Off button on the top of the router for two seconds to turn the wireless radios off and on. The WiFi On/Off LED and the WPS LED turn off when the wireless radios are turned off. The WiFi On/Off LED, and the WPS LED glow when the wireless radios are turned on.
You won't log in to the router to turn the WiFi radios back on if you used the WiFi button to turn them off. To switch the WiFi radios back on, press the WiFi button for two seconds again.
To enable or disable the WiFi radios:
Step 1: Using a computer or mobile device connected to your router's network, open a web browser.
Step 2: Enter http://www.routerlogin.net. A popup for logging in appears.
Step 3: Enter the username and password for the router.
Step 4: Admin is the user's name. Password is the default password. The case of the user name and password is essential. The BASIC Home page appears on the screen.
Step 5: Choose ADVANCED > Advanced Setup > Wireless settings. The page Advanced Wireless Settings appears.
Step 6: Select or clear the Enable Wireless Router Radio checkboxes in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz areas.
Step 7: Clearing these checkboxes disables the router's WiFi feature for each frequency.
Step 8: Then press the Apply button.
The WiFi On/Off LED and the WPS LED both turn off when both wireless radios are turned off. The WiFi On/Off LED and the WPS LED glow if the wireless radios are turned on.
Internal wireless radios on the router transmit signals in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. They're turned on by default so that you can connect to the router wirelessly. When the wireless radios are turned off, you can still connect to the router via an Ethernet cable.
