How to Set up the Linksys RE6700 to Range Extender Mode

Hello, Please let me know that how to Set up the Linksys RE6700 to Range Extender mode. I bought this new router and have no idea about that. Help me.

Until now, No extender has performed phenomenally, as it has been performed by Linksys RE6700 range extender.

It is an amplified dual-band Wifi range extender with an easy browser-based setup feature. To set up the Linksys RE6700 to range router mode, you should have an active WiFi connection with your wifi name and password, and Linksys RE6700 should be connected to the power outlet.

Now, to set up the process, you should wait till the LED light of the extender flashes orange. As it flashes orange, connect your range extender’s default SSID. On a web browser, type http://extcender.linksys.com and click on set up.

Now select your WiFi and log in to your credentials, and you will be able to set up Linksys RE6700 to the range extender.

Before you start the setup process, confirm with the following:

  • An active Wi-Fi connection.
  • Your Wi-Fi name (SSID) and Wi-Fi password / security key.
  • The Linksys RE6700 should be connected with a power outlet.  Wait till the light is flashing orange before starting the setup process.

To Set Up the Linksys RE6700 to Range Extender Mode, do Follow the Given Instruction Below:

Step 1: Using a computer or a mobile device, connect your device to the range extender's default SSID, which is Linksys Extender Setup.

Step 2: Visit a web browser, and type "http://extender.linksys.com" or "192.168.1.1" in the Address box.

Step 3: Click on setup

Step 4: Like a wireless range extender option will be chosen by default upon setting up. 

Step 5: Select your Wi-Fi.

Tips:  If you have a hidden SSID, scroll all the way down the list and click Manually Enter Network Name and Password. Otherwise, wait until it detects your Wi-Fi.

Step 6: Enter your Wi-Fi password in the field, then click Next.

Step 7: You will be asked to configure the extended wireless network that the range extender will be Broadcasting. Modify the settings as you prefer or leave the defaults as is, then tap .

Step 8: Tap on next if the Spot Finder show that the Linksys RE6700's location is right.  This feature identifies the signal strength between your range extender and your router.  If your range extender is Too far or Too close, transfer it accordingly, then back to step 1.

Step 9: Set up an admin password to secure your Linksys RE6700.  Alternatively, you may also add a password hint.

Step 10: Click saves, Now you will be able to set up the Linksys RE6700 to Range Extender mode.

Modify the Extended Wireless Settings of your Range Extender

The Extended Wireless Settings of the Linksys range extender is the wireless link within the range extender and the wireless clients.  It has a choice that allows you to configure the wireless settings for your extended network.

Step 1: Go to web browser to log in to the web-based setup page of your range extender.

QUICK TIP:  There are three (3) methods to log in:

  •  Enter http://extender.linksys.com in the Address bar.
  •  Enter the range extender’s IP address.?

Step 2: You will then be prompted for a password.  Enter “admin” in the Password field. Then, click OK.

NOTE:  The default password of the range extender is "admin" and the username leave blank. In case you have changed the password, enter that into place.

 Step 3: Click Basic Settings.

Step 4: Replace the Extended Wireless Settings of the band that you want to change. After that, untick the box near the Make same as router settings to turn off it.

NOTE:  In this example, the 2.4 Ghz band is used.

QUICK TIP:  By default, the checkbox is checked and the fields are hidden.

Step 5: Enter your preferred wireless name and password in the Network Name (SSID) and Password fields.

Step 6: If you want to change the Extended Wireless Advanced Settings like the Channel Width, Security Mode, and SSID Broadcast settings, do so in these fields.

Step 7: Click Enabled on SSID Broadcast.

NOTE:  If this option is remain on Auto, the range extender will follow the settings of the main router or access point.

Step 8: And in case you wish to change the Extended Wireless Settings of your 5 GHz network, the same rule applies.  Press down to the 5 GHz Extended Wireless Settings section then repeat steps 4-6.

NOTE:  Confirm that your router is broadcasting both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.  If your router's 5 GHz band is turn off or doesn't have this feature, the 5 GHz settings on your range extender will turn gray.

Step 9: Click Save.
