How to Setup Linksys E900 Router

The setup procedure of a Linksys E900 router is quite simple and can be done manually without the CD or any other kind of software. Some of the necessary equipment required are a Linksys E900 wireless router and ethernet cable, a computer or laptop device, and a modem. You can access the router’s web interface with the help of a web browser, IP address, and login details.

You can configure the internet connection setup and set up the wireless network connection. Once the process is done you can change the router password to a newer one and upgrade the firmware.

Setup Linksys E900 Router without CD:

The first method guides you to setup Linksys E900 router without any Cisco connect software or installation CD. Ensure that you are using a wired computer for the setup and not any wireless connection.

Below discussed are the easy steps for initial setup or configuration from basic.

Step 1: Check Your Internet Connection

The very first step is to connect your computer directly to the Internet modem. Do make sure that your Internet is working fine via modem connection. But if it is not then call the internet service provider to get the Internet fixed through the modem.

Step 2: Setup Connections to the Router

In the next step, you have to connect the modem to the Internet / WAN port. Further, connect your computer to one of the Ethernet ports on the E900 router. If you have connected the computer to the internet port, then it won't communicate with the router. So, you are required to set up your router as well.

Step 3: Access the Router Setup Page

Launch any installed web browser on your computer. Now, in the address bar, type the IP address 192.168.1.1. This number 192.168.1.1 is actually the default IP address of the router. Lastly, it will ask you for the router username and password which are set by default.

In most of the cases, the Linksys default password is “admin”. But if that doesn't work then you can try any other password that you might have used in the first time router installation process. Well, if that too is not working, then you have to simply reset Linksys router to its factory default settings.

After you login and open the setup page of the router, you will see all the settings listed that can be modified as required.

Step 4: Configure Internet Connection Settings

Next step is to modify the Internet connection settings as per your Internet service provider. In case of Cable Internet provider, you have to clone the MAC address of the main computer. In the case of DSL Internet service, you have to modify the PPPoE settings.

Step 5: Access Internet on Your Computer

As you have changed the internet connection settings, you can now try to go online and access the network on your main computer. If your computer is able to go online, your router is connected to the modem successfully.

Step 6: Modify Wireless Settings

To change the wireless settings, click on Wireless tab on the router setup page. You can create a new wireless network name or SSID. Always try to keep the Network mode mixed. Also, the SSID Broadcast should be enabled. Click on Save settings at the end.

Under the Wireless Security sub tab, enable security check on the wireless network. Change the security to WPA2 personal. For this step, you have to enter the password and then click on Save settings. Never share your network key (or password) with anybody.

Step 7: Connect to Wireless Network

If you own any wireless computer or other Wifi devices, you can connect them to WiFi. In the Wifi network list, you will find the Wifi name that you just created. Now, this will ask you for the password. So, enter the wifi password and it will connect.

Setup Linksys E900 Router Using Cisco Connect Software:

Another way to setup Linksys E900 router is to use the Cisco connect software which can be used for the initial setup program. So, if you are launching the software for the first time, it will ask you to connect the modem to the router. Otherwise, it will not ask you to attach the computer with the Ethernet cable.

However, it's better idea to connect the primary computer via Ethernet cable. Simply run the program and go live on the Internet. No settings required as the software does it all for you.

Additionally, the name and password will be created for the new wireless network. You can even set the wireless settings at the end of the installation. Later, you can modify the SSID and the security key too.
