Steps to Update Linksys Router Firmware

Step 1: Download the latest Linksys firmware file

Step 2: Connect to the computer

Secondly, you need to connect the main computer to the Ethernet port using the Ethernet cable. Remember, never to upgrade the router firmware using a wireless computer. Always make the computer connected with the help of an Ethernet cable. Additionally, make sure that the Local area connection available on your computer is enabled.

Step 3: Launch and navigate to the setup page

Open any installed Internet browser on your system and enter the router's IP into the address bar 192.168.1.1. As you enter, the router setup or configuration page will be opened. 

Note: This setup page is basically the configuration page where you can change and manage the router settings manually.

Next, you need to go to the Administration tab. Here, click on the Firmware upgrade which is a sub-tab. In case you don't find the setup page of your Linksys router then you might have the new router. The process to update Linksys router firmware for new routers is somewhat different. 

Step 4: Search for the firmware update file

Next, you need to click on the Browse or Select button. Here, you can browse for the firmware file that you have already downloaded in the local folder of your main computer.

Step 5: Update your existing firmware

Step 6: Wait for the completion of the firmware update process

Please note that this upgrade process will consume approximately 1 to 3 minutes. So, at the end of the update process, you will receive the message ” upgrade successful”. If you don't get the message ”upgrade failed” then simply reset the router again and try to update Linksys router firmware. Step 7: Reset the router machine
