Use Winbox for Upgrading MicroTik Router OS

Winbox offers an easy method to upgrade the MikroTik router OS. There are two ways to upgrade the MicroTik router. You can update the RouterOS to the latest version or a specific version.  

A) How to Upgrade MikroTik RouterOS to a Specific Version

A specific version of RouterOS can sometimes be more reliable than the latest version or present version of the router. In such a case user prefers to update it to a specific version. Below are the steps that you need to follow to upgrade your router to a specific version.

Step 1: Log into your MikroTik router using the Winbox software.

Step 2: After that, go to Winbox and then go to System. After that, go to the Resources menu item. Then, search for the Architecture name from the window of resources.

Step 3: After that, go to the archive page of the MikroTik router. Then, search for the specific version of the router OS.

Step 4: Now in the Winbox, click on the button of Files. After that, the window of File List.

Step 5: After that, go to the file list window and upload the file you just downloaded. Use drag and drop to upload the file.

Step 6: Once the upload is complete, give a reboot command by selecting System and Reboot.

B) How to Upgrade the MikroTik RouterOS to the Latest Version

If you wish to upgrade your MikroTik router OS to the latest version, then you are not required to go through a manual option. Winbox offers an automatic and easier way to upgrade the RouterOS to the latest version.

Step 1: When you open Winbox, open System and then go to the packages menu item.

Step 2: After that, go to the window of the package list. After that, you will see the option of "Check for Updates". Select it and then the Check for Updates window will open up.

Step 3: Now, select Bugfix from the dropdown menu of Channel. After that, you will see the RouterOS version installed. Also, you are going to see the latest version of the input box and bugfix.

Step 4: After that, click on the button of download. In the next few minutes, the latest version of RouterOS will get downloaded.

Step 5: Once the download is complete, then select System and then click on Reboot.

After a while, you will see your router operating in a normal way. Confirm the update to the latest version by going to System and Packages. Then, check the version of the package from the window of the package list.
