How to Setup Belkin Router Without Modem

There is no doubt in saying that Belkin router can setup without modem. But dear friends, I don’t know what process should follow to set up Belkin router without using cable modem. Actually I don’t want to spend money to buy a cable modem.

When I tried to setup Belkin router using CD-ROM, my installation was failing again-n-again. So please guide me how to setup Belkin router without any cable or DSL modem. I hope someone will provide me appropriate answer.

My devices are - Actiontec PK5000 modem , Belkin N600 DB N+ Wireless Router

Belkin Router Setup without Computer:

Manually setting up Belkin Router

It is extremely easy to setup Belkin router without the modem. Belkin router is one of those routers that can be installed without the installation CD. Through Belkin router setup page, you can manually install Belkin router.

Step 1 - First of all, connect your computer to Belkin router by using the ethernet cable. Just keep one thing in your mind that you have to insert ethernet cable into the numbered ports of the router.

Step 2 - Next, launch an internet browser and type Belkin router’s IP address in the address bar and then press Enter key. As for your information, the default IP address of Belkin router is 192.168.2.1. If you face any difficulty in accessing this IP address then

  • Confirm that ethernet cable is properly connected.
  • Verify that you are typing the correct IP address in the address bar.
  • Be sure there does not exist IP address confliction.
  • While logging, make sure you are not using the incorrect password.

Step 3 - On the Belkin router login page, click Login and leave the password field blank. Then click on Submit button. Now you are redirected to Belkin page.

Step 4 - On the Belkin router setup page, move to Internet WAN and then click on Connection Type. Just choose your connection type and then hit the Next key.

Step 5 - Lastly, just enter the details that are provided by your ISP. Then click on Apply Changes button.

Step 6 - You are now connected to the internet. To verify your connection status, check the “Internet Status” at the upper right corner. The internet status should be "connected".

Now, launch an internet browser and access your favorite website. Once you Belkin router has set up internet connection, you can configure specific settings as per your choice.

Use Belkin Setup Disk -

  1. First of all, you have to connect your Belkin router to your system by using a Cat 5 ethernet cable. Plug ethernet cable into the any of numbered ports that are located on the rear side of the router.
  2. Connect another end of the ethernet cable into the ethernet port of your system. This Ethernet port will look alike large phone jack.
  3. Now open your favorite web browser and access the Belkin router login wizard by entering “192.168.1.1.” in the address bar.
  4. If Belkin router webpage does not open by entering “192.168.1.1” in the address bar then open Command Prompt, type “ipconfig” and hit Enter key. Now you will see an IP address, just use that particular IP address to access Belkin router settings.
  5. Next, enter accurate login credentials and access Belkin router setup page.
  6. The login credentials will be -

    Username- admin

    Password – password (You can also leave the password field empty.)

  7. Now access Belkin router settings and check security settings. Tap on Security link that is located in the Wireless section.
  8. Move to security mode and set its value as “WPA/WPA2-Personal”. IN the authentication box, select “WPA-PSK+WPA2-PSK”.

  10. Next, go to encryption technique box and set its value as “THIP+AES”. Go to Pre-Shared key box and enter a unique passphrase into it.
  11. Save the Belkin router security settings by clicking on Save button.
  12. Move to Utilities section and then tap on System Settings. To secure your Belkin router, enter a password in the “Type a password” field box. Also, confirm the password by entering same values in Confirm Password checkbox.
  13. At last, tap on “Apply Settings” button and save the overall security settings for Belkin router.
