This quick guide helps you to configure an SMC Router in a few simple steps. Once you configure an SMC Router, you can set up your wireless network connection and hence getting your computers online as quickly as possible. 

This can be accomplished by logging and accessing the SMC router's settings through a single wired computer. Once you get access, you can configure the router for the rest of your network computers in the process. The complete process takes around 10 to 20 minutes.

Quick Steps to Configure an SMC Router

Step 1: Firstly, plug in an Ethernet cable at the backside of any network computer. Thereafter, plug in the other end into any available port on the back of the SMC router.

Step 2: Now, launch any installed web browser on your connected computer. Type or enter the router URL "http://192.168.2.1," or "http://192.168.2.1:80," or "http://192.168.2.1:88" (depending on your model of SMC router) into the address bar of the browser window.

Step 3: Fill in the default password detail for your SMC router. This information is usually found in the instruction manual for your specific model of router.

Step 4: Next, click on "Advanced Setup," "WAN," and click "PPPoE."

Step 5: Further, enter your username and password detail for your Internet connection (if any). Here, you can set the "MTU" value to 1440 and set "Maximum Idle Time" to "0" (zero).

Step 6: Lastly, click on "Advanced Setup," "Wireless," and "Encryption." In this, enter a 26-character code of your choice to password protect your router network. 
Finally, press the "Apply" button to save your router configuration changes.

Steps to Change the Password on Your SMC Router

If you want to change your WiFi password on your SMC Modem, then you first need to access the router setting panel of the modem. Simply follow the instructions below to change your WiFi settings and configure an SMC Router.

Step 1: Initially, go to the SMC Admin Console by entering the router IP 192.168.0.1 in your internet browser (the address bar is present at the top of your web page).

Step 2: Next, log in to the admin panel using the following information:

• Username: cusadmin
• Password: The password is present or printed on the white sticker at the top side of your Shaw wireless modem (SMC). This is named as the Pre-shared Key or Password

Step 3: Under the Wireless tab, choose the Encryption option.

Step 4: Now, you can choose a desired password into the Pre-Shared Key field. The Pre-Shared Key should be between 8 to 63 characters in length and must be case-sensitive (considering that WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK is in use for the security model). 

Step 5: Finally, select the Apply option.

Note: It is always recommended to write down your WiFi settings such as your network name and Wi-Fi password. This is important in case you forget them or you require them to re-enter your wireless network information in the future.
